The RecLink Cup puts the fun back in Footy
It was good old fashioned Footy Fun at the RecLink Cup on Sunday .
At the Elsternwick VAFA Ground the wasted , grizzled Espy Rockdogs took on the fit looking Megahertz .
Kids on the oval kicked battered Sherrins around , hip young things wore Vintage Footy Jumpers , made before they were born , and the queue snaked around the ubiquitous beer tent .
Pre , half - time and after match entertainment was provided by local muso's , who covered many great Aussie Rock songs penned by Nick Cave .
Dogs ( canine variety) , stationed around the boundary , whined when their namesakes rolled out a transvestite cheer squad. Undaunted , their team , displaying beer paunches and tragic hairdos , went on to snatch victory from the slick Megahertz .
The Megahertz walked the walk and talked the talk emblazoned in their garish, red and white striped footy jumpers . They supplied a resplendent , baton twirling , group of femme fatale , Hertzettes cheer leaders .
Good sort Dan Sultan , led the Dogs , who played in the red , yellow and black indigenous coloured footy jumpers , to victory . The Hertz had their colours lowered on the day and have put their football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys away for next years re-match .
Not a bad day's entertainment , all for $5 in the kitty , for the RecLink organisation .
