football jumper , jersey , guernseys are usually a replica of the senior sizes. The commemorative or more decorative styles do not seem to be made for babies .

The basic standard style of home and away colours are made in tiny sizes for babies from six months upwards.Do these mini fans continue to follow the team’s guernsey, jersey , jumper they wear as an infant or do they discard them as soon as they are old enough? Has the indoctrination that has begun at birth been successful so they continue to follow the parents choice of team into youth and then adulthood? Time will tell but these jumpers for small fans are becoming increasingly popular with parents everywhere .

small sizes

[caption id="attachment_301" align="aligncenter" width="199" caption="junior size"][/caption]

Melbourne was hit by storms on Saturday afternoon that brought torrential rain , flash floods and hailstone damage .Patrons attending Etihad Stadium for the Dockers vs Saints Final of the NAB Cup had a delayed entrance due to hailstone damage to a section of the outer roof. Despite the delay and all the fans being required to sit on the first level of the arena for safety reasons the game was played . The Saints played in their distinctive mainly black jumper jersey guernsey they have worn throughout the Cup and the Dockers played in their all white jersey jumper guernsey with the purple anchor .
Small crowds and wild weather conditions did not dampen the Saints efforts who beat the valiant Dockers. The Saints are now in the NAB Cup Grand Final.
The Saints will play a very good Western Bulldogs team . It may prove to be as exciting a final as the preliminary final of the 2009 season where the Saints just scraped a win against the talented Doggies side . Both teams will be eager for success especially as neither has won a day final for many years .
Who will wear what jumper jersey guernsey ? Will the Saints stick to the black and the Dogs the white as both sides have red and white as part of their teams colours . Stay tuned for next saturday nights Grand Final. It promises to be a tremendous game and brings a new twist in the white jumper jersey guernsey saga.

Footy on Friday in Melbourne with the NAB Cup Final at Etihad Stadium between the Dogs and Power . It promises to be a thriller . Power have unveiled a new strip for their guernsey , jersey , jumper of season 2010 . Its distinctive colours shouldn’t clash with the traditional Doggies tri colours of red blue and white.
The other finals clash between the Saints and Dockers will see the Saints wearing their NAB cup night colours as worn previously. Will the Dockers play in the white style guernsey jumper jersey often worn by them for the away night games? Those under 18 get in free as part of the AFL’s push to attract young fans. Many young fans will attend in their team colours jumper , jersey , guernsey .
A change of venue has occurred for the scheduled Lions / Cats match. Its been moved to Visy Park in Melbourne after torrential rain and ongoing bad weather has rendered the original venue on the Gold Coast unusable . Queensland , rain one day even more rain the next. Victoria’s new slogan , sunny one day even sunnier the next .
Ironic that at a time when the AFL is promoting respectful relationships Fevola is again in the headlines for appearing to disrespect women. Will he be stripped of his Lions jumper , jersey , guernsey? That other wayward son Barry Hall has fitted well into his Doggies jumper , jersey , guernsey and is playing good footy .

The modern football jumper , jersey , guernsey is being manufactured from polyester / elastane or treated nylon .They are slick ,bright and are worn closely fitted or moulded to the body.

There is not much room to move and they show off the elite football players athletes body .The fine woven fabric is far removed from the woolly creations of yesteryear . These new jumpers fit the players bodies tautly with no room for manevoure
Justin Koschitske had his jumper jersey guernsey ripped from his body on saturday night in the NAB Cup. So incredibly tight fitting they are not grasped and swung on , hung onto or pulled at.Equally flimsy are the new models that any significant rough contact causes them to rip easily.
Sizing of the new jumpers , jerseys , guernsey is on the small side . A small adult jumpers measurements are those for a teen , child or very small adult. The XXXXL jumper which is generally the largest size available measures as a mens large .

Sleek and modern they may be but the sizing has been so refined the measurements do npt add up to reperesent the true size of the jumper .

old style jumper

[caption id="attachment_277" align="aligncenter" width="199" caption="new style"][/caption]

St Kilda Saints and Sydney Swans played Round 2 of their NAB Cup Match on Saturday night 27 February at Etihad Stadium Melbourne .In front of a crowd of 11,000 fans the Saints snatched victory from the Swans by one point .

red not white

The Saints whose colours are red , white and black wore mainly black with one red panel and one white on the front of their guernsey , jumper , jersey . The Swans whose colours are white and red wore mainly white with a red v on the front of their guernsey , jumper , jersey .Red shorts and traditional red and white striped socks completed the Swans outfit. The Saints also wore their traditional red , white and black striped socks with black shorts.
The contrast in the two dominant colours was marked . White versus Black . No mistakes were made by players , fans and TV and Radio Broadcasters . Saints fans may have felt the umpires were still colour blind as a greater number of free kicks were awarded Sydney’s way. Excitement peaked when Justin Koschitzke’s jumper was ripped from his body and a replacement had to be quickly found .

same logo

The distinctive strips added to the evening’ s enjoyment and the Game was easy to watch .Swans exciting new recruit , Lewis Jetta’s fluorescent footy boots were also easily seen .
Is this the way teams will dress for night and day footy games if their is any similarity of their teams colours?Time will tell but in the meantime ardent fans and collectors alike are coveting the new style jerseys guernseys jumpers.

The NAB Cup continues with successful teams playing off.
Saturday sees Melbourne based team , the much loved but spectacularly unsuccessful St Kilda Saints play the Sydney based, exciting Sydney Swans. Both teams have red and white in their team colours . The Saints have black too but it still raises the question will one team play in the white strip favoured of previous years when a clash in clubs colours is evident ?

hawks white one

If they do it will avoid confusion between players , fans and TV viewers alike . This white jumper , jersey , guernsey is destined to become a highly collectable item . Those from previous years clashes are widely sought by all .

Is a new white strip to be worn ? Fans will just have to wait and see.

The first round of the NAB Cup is over with the winning teams continuing in the competition to decide the premiership team. Some clubs like Port Adelaide Power are sporting a completely new style of strip. Gone is the fist / lightning bolt etc to be replaced with a more traditional 3 colour v neck guernsey .
All the other teams retained their traditional colours but some favoured a re – vamped version on the old theme eg st kilda’s reworking of its traditional strip. Some clubs again used the trend of recent years by playing in white with a distinctive motif eg the fremantle dockers and west coast eagles. The Brisbane Lions have a new Lion mascot . The well known clubs such as Carlton and Collingwood prefer to play in their traditional strip / colours . If you have a very famous distinctive strip such as these two teams perhaps it is wise not to tamper with a tried and tested popular formula.
These slick , sleek football guernseys are the modern day incarnation of the old woollen model . This model is still keenly sought by collectors and fans alike and even by those who just want to play kick to kick with the boys pre and post match .

old style

[caption id="attachment_253" align="aligncenter" width="199" caption="new style "][/caption]

A balmy Melbourne night saw 2009 premiership runners up the Saints play the Collingwood Magpies at Etihad Stadium. Footy starved fans out of hibernation following the long summer break were treated to a great display between the two traditional rivals.

Magpies well fancied

The Saints resplendent in a new team strip , a guernsey with wide horizontal red , black and white stripes reminiscent of the Western Bulldogs strip were able to hold off a fast finishing Collingwood side .They were wearing their distinctive black and white strip. Purists argue that the pre season competition is not the ” real footy “.

traditional strip

Cheering fans in their thousands would disagree with this sentiment last night as they watched the Mighty Saints hold off the fast finishing Magpies by one point .Fans booing Collingwoods newest recruit Luke Ball , an ex Sainter would be happy with this result . Nothing is sweeter than to beat Collingwood in Melbourne at Friday night footy before a fiercely loyal home town crowd.
The sydney competition is already having an impact on the national Game with the historic first match at western Sydney’s Blacktown Olympic Park being a sell out . If the competing teams can provide a spectacle to compare with lasts nights game at Etihad the future of the Game looks secure in Sydneys west. Sydney Swans play Carlton in a game between two rising teams who hope to cement a place in the history books by playing in this great contest.Fans , administrators, footy teams and the AFL are all hoping to be treated to a great nights entertainment. The future of Australias’s own iconic code of football in the Harbour City looks bright .

The New Lion mascot was unveiled at Manuka Oval, Canberra today as the Brisbane Lions and the Western Bulldogs played their first round game for the NAB Cup.
It appears to have the same body as the old Lion mascot but the head is a full frontal depiction outlined in brown / maroon . Star recruit Fevola and the rest of the team were resplendent in their new kit .The Lions despite the new mascot on their jumpers were beaten by the tenacious Western Bulldogs who played in their traditional colours of red , white and blue with old style Bulldogs mascot .
Perhaps it is seen as poetic justice by all the old die hard Fitzroy fans particularly those who remember the Fitzroy Lions glory days that a new Lion a successful team does not make.

Old Lion

[caption id="attachment_236" align="alignright" width="199" caption="Lions colours"][/caption]

Doggies Growl

[caption id="attachment_239" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Footscray Bulldogs"][/caption]

Fans who have endured the long summer hiatus of football from their lives can take heart . The NAB Cup kicks of this Friday the 12th February for the opening of the AFL’s pre – season competition .There are a succession of games to be played at venues around the country , in every state where AFL is played.

new jumper

old jumper

Footy starved fans can dig out their jumper , jersey , guernsey and other paraphernalia such as flag , cap etc possibly eschewing the scarf and beanie in 37 degrees heat . Its a time of celebration for footy fans everywhere , whether they are going to the Game or watching it on the TV the fans will be back in the old familiar jumper . Or perhaps not so familiar for Blues fans whose team this year is to be fuelled by lollies in their hunt for the Flag. Will they prove ” a mars a day helps you work , rest and play “. All the teams photos for 2010 have been posted in the daily newspaper and it promises to be a blockbuster season. Get your football jumper , jersey , guernsey out of the cupboard , off the wall or down from storage now . Or better yet shout yourself a new one with all the new sponsors firmly in place . The scent of the turf and the bounce of the Sherrin is close
