The last round of AFL matches, saw very mixed results .

A Magpies tattooed army , trounced a seemingly unstoppable , Saints side.

Dual premiership winners, and league leaders,  the Cats, were beaten by out of form Crows .

New glamour side Tigers,  were thwarted by Kangaroos, and Blues stopped by Swans .

Freo prevented Demons moving foward, bottom dwellers Eagles , beat luckless Bombers , Hawks thrashed Lions , and Bulldogs defeated de – stabilised Port Power .

Fans , used to mid season , mixed results were out , in their football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys   to watch all the action.

The lead up to the AFL Finals is on , with the race for closely contested spots beginning.

Thrills and Spills

The modern , AFL game, is fast , exciting , and thrilling.

Fans, watching their team , witness the lead changing many times ,in a closely contested match . Many seemingly , lost games , are retrieved by a teams doggedness , and their players superior athleticism .

Those , that can run the fastest, for the longest , are often the victors .

Last night,  it appeared the Hawks,  would walk away from the match , with a certain victory .

This conclusion discounted the fast finishing , young and fit,  Bombers squad, who almost snatched victory , from the Hawks in the closing minutes of the Game.

Fans , dressed in their football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys were treated to a lively night’s entertainment .

They were engrossed in the last quarter,  watching the Bombers fight back .

No certainties in the modern game , only that each week,  fans will go to watch footy matches .

They will do so wearing their football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys .

Weekend Games

The pressure to succeed and the unpredictability of the modern AFL game was never more evident than in last weekends round of matches .

The Cats thrashed the Lions at the Gabba‘, Western Bulldogs beat in form team Sydney and the Saints suffered their third loss in a row to a speedy , youthful Bombers side .

The Richmond Tigers looked poised to breakthrough with their first win of the 2010 season only to have it snatched away by their Hawthorn opponents in the dying moments of the game.

A  youthful Melbourne Demons team were no match for a rejuvenated West Coast Eagles who beat them soundly at the MCG.

Interstate results saw Carlton hold off Port Power at AAMI stadium and the Collingwood Magpies beat vastly improved Fremantle Dockers at Subiaco.

Many fans, tipsters and media commentators would have expected different results to those posted in this round of matches .

Fans were out everywhere in their jumpers , jerseys , guernseys to cheer their team on and to will them to succeed.

AFL Club colours for Amateurs

Many football clubs play in Amateur Leagues and Competitions.

It could be the local under 10 school based team .eg St Josephs primary school side, Premiers 1998, who play in all blue with yellow V colours .

Older youths play in District Teams.eg SMDC . South Melbourne Districts Club, who play in the red and white and have a Swans Mascot .

Areas form their own teams and play in amateur leagues eg St Kilda City , who play in the Southern Football League .For decades they have fielded local teams at all levels junior through to senior .They play out of the famous Peanut Farm Reserve in St Kilda and wear the red , white and black jumper , jersey , guernsey with a Saint mascot and shield.

Women have their own League. In Victoria it is the VWFL and is growing . St Kilda Sharks is a womens team that also plays out of the Peanut Farm Reserve in St Kilda and wear the red , white and black of their AFL counterparts.

The iconic colours mark a team , an area , a district and a competition .

Amateur or elite team the club colours of the jumper , jersey , guernsey are worn with pride and passion .

Round Four Results

Winners are grinners and the Saints are smiling all the  way to the top of the AFL League ladder after effectively demolishing the Fremantle Dockers on saturday night. Four wins in a row all against interstate clubs have secured St Kilda’s top spot ahead of Geelong who are second on the ladder also with four wins .

Other winners at the weekend include Collingwood who  beat the Lions in front of their  home town crowd at the Gabba, and the Cats who held off a determined Adelaide side at AAMI stadium. The Power out-powered last years premiers the Hawks by 3o points at the MCG and the Eagles beat the Western Bulldogs over in Subiaco .

The Kangaroos held off the young Bombers to secure victory in a lack lustre  game and Richmond Tigers woes increased as they were beaten by a spirited Melbourne  Demons side .The Demons celebrated whilst the Tigers continued with their four game losing streak which sees them languishing on the bottom of the AFL ladder emphasizing their poor start to the Season.

Up in Sydney the Swans beat Carlton and some Carlton players  like Fevola continue to struggle with inaccurate kicking .

Easter Football

The AFL staged a staggered round of matches to accommodate the Easter holiday break .

In Round 3 of the  fixture the Saints , Bombers , Bulldogs , Cats , Lions , Power , Hawks and Crows all won their matches .

Collingwood , Carlton , Eagles , Tigers , Swans , Demons ,North  Melbourne  and the Dockers were all losers.

The Blues were beaten by only 4 points against a young determined Bombers side and the Cats, Saints and Bulldogs continued on their winning way with all three sides being undefeated at the close of play of round 3 .

St  Kilda are on top of the AFL ladder after defeating three interstate teams , the Swans, Crows and Eagles. They take on another interstate team in the Fremantle Dockers in round 4 at Etihad Stadium on saturday night the 18th of april.
