Friday Night Football celebrated its 25th anniversary last night .
Almost 44,000 fans turned out , on a wintry Melbourne night, to watch North Melb Kangaroos beat the Carlton Blues.
It was an appropriate tribute to Bob Ansett , former North Melbourne Football Club Committee Member , who was instrumental in establishing AFL, friday night games .
Originally established to get more fans to the game , specifically office workers after work , friday night games evoke memories for players , coaches, fans, and club administration alike.
Fans will always go to Games wearing their football jumpers, jerseys, guernseys , whatever night of the week they are played
The main difference between last night's game, and those of 25 years ago,is that fans watched the Roos demolish the Blues in the comfort of Etihad Stadium , with comfortable seats , under a roof closed against the wet, cold , dark , winter night .

AFL team ,Carlton Blues soundly defeated St Kilda Saints on Monday Night wearing predominately white jumpers, jerseys, guernseys and white shorts .
The Saints played in their traditional tri colour jumper , jersey , guernsey and black shorts .
It provided a great viewing spectacle with one team in a dark colour, and one in a light colour.
The North Melbourne Kangaroos also played in predominantly white jumpers, jerseys, guernseys with light blue stripes at the weekend .
The white coloured jumper , jersey , guernsey is gaining in popularity .
It seems a sensible approach when opposing teams colours clash or are similiar.

St Kilda Saints play Carlton Blues on Monday night 10 May at Etihad Stadium . The match starts at 7.20 pm and will be televised .
It's a bold marketing move by the AFL in a bid to attract greater attendance figures and put more bums on seats .
The choice of a game during the week as opposed to weekends , friday night or public holidays is a relatively new initiative .
Both clubs enjoy a large supporter fan base .
Some reports in the media have shown stories of younger fans being unable to attend as it is a school night .
Older fans may be absent due to work commitments.
The AFL , whilst continually developing and looking at new ways to attract supporters will be mindful of this .
Will it be financially rewarding for the two clubs who are hoping to attract high attendance figures and a hefty revenue payment for the media broadcast?
Whether they are at the Match or watching it at home fans will be dressed in their football jumper , jersey , guernsey to support their teams.

Will the Blues win on Monday Night ?

There are three styles of modern jumper , jersey , guernsey .
The sleeveless style which has no sleeves .
The long sleeve style which has long sleeves .
And the short sleeve style which has short sleeves.
Few players wear long sleeve jumpers in the modern game .
Memorable players who wore one in recent times were Matthew Lapin ,Carlton Blues player . Another famous wearer was James Hird , Essendon Bombers Captain.
Most modern players wear the sleeveless style.
This is in stark contrast to the old style players who mainly wore long sleeve woolly jumpers , jerseys , guernseys.
The short sleeve style of jumper , jersey , guernsey is usually worn for training purposes.
