The AFL trade period is on, new coaches have been appointed , and assistant coaches are being re - shuffled . The Rugby World Cup Finals continue in New Zealand , and the Victorian Spring Racing Carnival , has commenced. Cricket is on the not too distant horizon , as are the various  Yacht Races.

It begs the question , does the football jumper , jersey , guernsey , go on summer holidays ? For most fans the answer is no . It will be given an airing at other sporting fixtures , and is a popular piece of favourite apparel, seen gracing beaches , bbqs and other social functions during the " off season ".

A slightly bedraggled looking, Collingwood Magpies , footy jumper , was even spotted at yesterdays Caulfield Cup . Has it been doing the rounds since 1st October ? or was it pinched from the St Vinnies donation bag , outside the Malthouse Mansion ?

In AFL Football , players and coaches come and go . Fans and teams enjoy good years and bad years . Its all part of following your team . The one thing that remains constant , is your teams colours .Whatever the style of football jumper , jersey , guernsey, fans remain loyal to their colours . Many will be wearing them , over the next few weeks , of the AFL 2011 Finals Series

Three AFL coaches have been sacked in the last month , and there are only three rounds of games , to play in the AFL, 2011 footy season .

Friday night footy at the MCG saw the Hawks hold off a fast finishing Blues side .It was a low scoring , fiercely contested tussle between two top four teams .This weekend sees the Saints , Bombers , Bulldogs , Lions , Freo and Crows travel interstate whilst the Magpies , Gold Coast , Power , Eagles , Swans and Kangaroos host visitors at home . Geelong score a rest and in a battle of co-tenants at the MCG , Melbourne play Richmond on Sunday afternoon at the MCG .

Much jostling for the top eight spots , particularly 5th , 6th , 7th, and 8th spots , will play out over the weekend . Off field media posturing is also occurring ,whilst sledging is rife , between opposition club coaches and players . Conjecture as to who will coach which team , and who will play off in the finals is also receiving much media attention .Faithful fans will get to matches , expecting great entertainment  , wearing their teams , footy jumpers , jerseys , guernseys.

An AFL team,  will play in Ireland , for an International Rules Series , beginning in Limerick on 23 October , 2010.

It continues a 26 year history of competition . The series , was abandoned for two years in 2005 and 2006 , as Australia's style of play,  was deemed too physically combatitive for the Irish team.

Irish fans,  didn't enjoy the spectacle , and left the matches early .
The Irish team , cancelled their tour in 2007 .

The series was played in 2008 , in Australia , but poor economic conditions led to its cancellation in 2009.

An amalgamated team of AFL players and advisors , with acting coach Mick Malthouse , the Collingwood Magpies ,  successful premiership Coach , to make the 2010 Tour .

The Australian players will wear the modern style , AFL Football Jumper , Jersey , Guernsey .

It is usually a unique design incorporating the Australian Coat of Arms , AFL and International Rules Series logos,  and becomes a collectible, amongst supporters.

The tour concludes in Dublin, on 30 October , 2010.

Last weekend was the start of the 2010 AFL Finals Series.

It was superlative entertainment , of the highest level .

This weekend promises further excitement, with the scheduled round of matches .

Quite apart from the physical , mental and verbal jousts , of the on field action, fans have been treated to sledging , between rival coaches , on and off the field.

Its raw , action packed , and emotive stuff that is not for the faint hearted . Many Saints fans can attest to this after last friday nights cliffhanger . Patrons were overheard being asked in a Balaclava coffee shop ( heart of St Kilda territory ) on Saturday morning " hows the ticker " ? The game was so close many sainters were in danger of having a heart attack before the final siren !

The old adage " Winners are grinners and losers can suit themselves " is most relevant .

Local fans , who have endured a long cold , wet Melbourne winter , floods , and election uncertainty , are poised to wrench every moment of enjoyment, from this final series.

Supporters everywhere , wearing their football jumpers, jersey's , guernsey's , say " bring it on " .

Are Collingwood Flag Favourites ?

AFL Football is cut throat . Results are demanded , for a teams success , and coaches are sacrificed, if they are not forthcoming . Just ask Terry Wallace , Dean Laidley, and most recently Mark Williams.

AFL is a high powered, elite sport .The coach and his support staff are ultimately accountable for the teams success , and must justify the vast sums , spent on achieving this .

Supporters , often oblivious to behind the scenes wrangling , also demand a high level of achievement from their club . They go to the footy, wearing their football jumper , jersey , guernsey , believing their team can win.

Power axed Coach

The AFL draft has taken place and the the new recruits and rookies have been presented with the football jumper ,jersey ,guernsey of the club they have been recruited to . The chairman of the AFL Andrew Demetriou called out the new players name and the club he had been recruited to . Watched by family and friends and club officials the young man proudly strode toward the clubs coach who was smiling and holding the club colours aloft in the form of the teams current home strip. The colourful football jumper ,jersey ,guernsey was accepted gratefully by the new recruit who left the stage clutching his future football clubs jumper ,jersey ,guernsey . It is now a part of the clubs and his history . The humble football jumper ,jersey ,guernsey was present at the making of a future club champion to be written into club folklore . Nowhere was a football jumper ,jersey ,guernsey more proudly displayed along with the hopes and aspirations of those young players and their chosen clubs who are hoping for 2010 success.
