AFL Weekend results were a mixed bag , with games providing fiercely contested battles , and some surprise results .

Saints outclassed
The Crows were very good against Geelong in Adelaide , with the Cats scraping a narrow win by only 11 points . The Swans in a shock 43 point loss to the under-performing Tigers have placed their finals chances in jeopardy . This loss allows Fremantle and North Melbourne to keep their finals dream alive .
Carlton , Hawthorn , Collingwood , Geelong and the West Coast Eagles continue to win , broadening the gap between the top five , and the next three contenders , for places in the eight . The Lions won the battle of the Queenslanders , and the Bombers ended the Bulldogs hopes of playing in the Finals . St Kilda , couldn't make it seven wins in a row , and were simply outclassed by the silky skills of the Magpies .

Its a fierce battle , between five teams , for the last three spots in the eight . Loyal fans , wearing their football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys , will be treated to some fine footy action in the three weeks of home and away matches , as the season draws to a close .

The AFL labelled last weekend's footy matches , the Indigenous Round , to honour past and present , indigenous footy players.

Traditional Tigers Jumper
The Richmond Tigers, wore jumpers with a local indigenous artists painting , replacing the yellow of their traditional sash strip . It was a bold move that paid off as this new style jumper , jersey , guernsey , proved a match winner for them in their game against the Bombers .
Geelong, managed a two point win over a fast finishing Carlton Blues side , in a fitting tribute to Club Legend , Bob Davis , who passed away , earlier in the week .

Everyone who owns an AFL Football Jumper , generally enjoys a love / hate relationship with it .
Your team wins , you are proud to be seen in it . It is waved in the air like an out of control hills hoist , or worn proudly to weddings , parties , anything . Flashback to the aftermath of the 2010 Grand Final

90's AFL logo
when Melbourne Town , was under a black and white haze for weeks .
If your team loses do you slink from the ground , hiding your jumper away , feeling depressed , all the while wishing you can remove it , unseen from prying eyes ? Does it languish in the bottom of your cupboard being silently punished for being the wrong colour , waiting to be given a second chance ?
Most fans will always love their jumper . Why blame it , if their team can't find the goals , are playing like a bunch of old women , or just allow themselves to be crushed by a stronger opponent . Footy jumpers know loyal fans will " Stand by You " and that " Its only a game " . You can pick your footy team but you can't pick on your footy jumper . Adoption rates are high for pre-loved football jumpers.

The Gold Coast Suns make their debut this weekend, playing Carlton on saturday night , at the Gabba . New team , flash footy jumpers , big name stars , a refurbished ground , and a match against a popular Victorian AFL team , offers great entertainment , for footy fans .

Carlton
A team not wanting to adopt a new footy jumper, are the North Melbourne Kangaroos . They will wear their traditional striped home jumper , in the game against Collingwood Magpies, at the weekend . As the home team, this is their choice , and they are opposing the Magpies , who refuse to adopt a clash strip . Confusion for all , or a clever marketing ploy ? Traditional jumpers , to be worn in a match , to be held at the traditional Saturday afternoon footy game time of 2.10pm.

Vintage AFL Football Jumpers are a piece of living history . They are a knitted piece of nostalgia , reminding fans of their first football jumper or their first footy game , played at their clubs old home ground , largely no longer in use .
Sure the newer , slicker models are ergonomically designed ,
and are rated as a superior product , but nothing beats the scratchy wool / acrylic feel , of the old model . The style of the jumper and the sponsors logos date it . They place it back in time , when footy was for saturday afternoon entertainment , and you could walk to your local ground , and buy a ticket at the gate . You stood if it was a big crowd , often atop the slab of beer cans , that had been carried into the ground by your mates .
Vintage Football jumpers evoke a wave of nostalgia , and are still looking good . Generally they are smaller in size than the current models but they are much bigger in reputation.

The unbelievable has happened, with the Collingwood Magpies versus St Kilda Saints , Grand Final match , last weekend , resulting in a draw .
A rematch will be played on October 2nd , at the MCG , at 2.10 pm .
It is only the third grand final replay, in VFL/AFL history.
Both teams played valiantly but were denied an outright win. It wasn't the easy match , with Collingwood dominating, that most predicted .The Saints proved they are a force to be reckoned with , and almost snatched victory from the jaws of defeat .
Adding further drama to the day, was the flooding of both teams change rooms , with a sewerage leak from a broken pipe, making the rooms inaccessible after the game .
Most spectators ,shocked and disbelieving at the final siren will be back next week , same time , same place , same combatants .
Fans will be there wearing their football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys ,hoping for a result in favour of their team .

Whilst the AFL stands to gain a huge financial windfall , from the rematch, there will need to be some hasty rescheduling of other sporting events , eg the VRC ,Turnbull Stakes Day, at Flemington racecourse , on 2nd October will probably be moved, to Sunday the 3rd October.
Luckily ,the NRL Grand Final between the St George Illawarra Dragons , and the Sydney Roosters begins at 5.00pm. It won't clash with the AFL Grand Final , which should be over by then . However the two minor NRL finals ,NSW Cup Grand Final , and the Toyota Cup (NYC) Grand Final, scheduled to play at 12.00 pm and 2.00 pm respectively, will be on at the same time .

The might of Collingwood ,stopped Geelong' s assault on the flag, last night at the MCG .
In an impressive display of AFL football , the Magpies overpowered the Geelong Cats .
Geelong , seasoned veterans of two premierships , and successful finals campaigns in recent years, had no answers for the marauding Magpies .
Fans were out , in their football jumpers, jerseys , guernseys, to watch the Game . The Collingwood army, were present with their legion of fans , voicing the low rumble " collingwood ' , through much of the night .
The Saints , take on the Western Bulldogs, in the second preliminary final, tonight at the MCG. Another epic battle , is predicted between these two mighty clubs . Both teams share a spectacular lack of Finals success , and are set for a feisty competition .
Its Magpies season . Even walking the dog at the local park ,prompted an unprovoked attack from a native magpie .Was he protecting his nest, or did he spot the Saints dog collar, and just decide to stamp his authority?
Time will tell who the ultimate victor is. Love em" or hate em ' , Collingwood to use that afl commentators , hackneyed cliche , are definitely " up and about" .
