AFL Carlton Blues Football Jumper

The women's AFL competition AFLW commenced for 2018. The opening game was between traditional rivals Carlton and Collingwood,  at Ikon Stadium in Melbourne, friday, 2nd February.

Carlton defeated Collingwood in a fiercely fought battle by just eight points . Final scores were 22 points to 14 points. A large crowd of just under 20,000 excited fans went along to watch the game. The AFL were prepared for a large crowd after 2017 's lockout when many disappointed fans had to be turned away due to large numbers of attendees. The AFL instigated an overflow area with a big screen TV installed, and seating, to provide fans with a viewing area in case of lockout.

Initially the original  football jumpers, jerseys, guernseys were knitted from wool. The team colours and club insignia was constant. Players wore a long sleeved version of the football jumper, jersey, guernsey with a collar and button up front.  Manufacturing processes changed and the guernsey was still knitted but from acrylic wool. Long sleeves, v necks with collars, favourite players numbers sewn on the back and sewn on AFL logo patches proliferated.

Fitzroy Football Club were the first football club that began displaying sponsors logos on guernseys for a commercial fee. Ironic that the club was deemed to be economically unviable by the AFL, and ceased to exist . An amalgamation of sorts was attempted with the establishment of a new team the Brisbane Bears in Queensland, who bore the FFC initials on the back of their guernsey . A later incarnation saw the Brisbane Lions adopt the Fitzroy team mascot of a lion on their guernsey.

AFL Football team Richmond Tigers are jubilant after winning the 2017 Premiership. Capping off a massive week of achievements the Tigers won the 2017 Premiership flag. Tigers player Dustin Martin, won the Norm Smith medal for best on ground. Taking the winners dais after the AFL Grand Final, Tigers Coach Damien Hardwick was gracious in victory congratulating their  defeated Adelaide Crows opponents. Many had expected a Crows victory but the Tigers, possibly buoyed by Martin's Brownlow win had risen to the challenge and pulled of a miraculous victory for its loyal fans. Young  Aus Kick footballers,wearing their Tigers football jumpers, jerseys, guernseys, handed the victors their premiership medals with endearing comments to their heroes such as "great game" and "your'e the best" .

Partying and celebrations continued all night and into the small hours of the morning around the MCG, next door at the Richmond Oval and across the surrounding suburb of Richmond and neighbouring Cremorne.

It is a much feted victory, a long time in the making, as its been thirty seven years since the Tigers last Premiership. A fairytale win, akin to the Western Bulldogs 2016 great victory over the marauding Sydney Swans. A repeating tale of underdog Victorian team wins against much favoured Interstate rival.

The crows gallant in defeat will return to  Adelaide minus the holy grail, the 2017 Premiership Cup, as this year it remains firmly entrenched in the local Victorian hands.

The MCG was packed to capacity, emotions ran high, and the roar of thrilled spectators went out amidst a vista of yellow and black, or red yellow and blue football jumpers, jerseys, guernseys.
