Popular AFL Club , Richmond Tigers , have a new tiger mascot for season 2012. It is a black and yellow tiger ,with a body in a jungle like environment and replaces the old style tigers head mascot .

The Lions in a similiar action replaced their Lion mascot several seasons ago . By using Lions and Tigers as mascots, Brisbane and Richmond hope to be successful hunters and predators on the football field , just as their mascots are in the jungle.

A football jumper, can be dated by the style of its mascot , and those fans with vintage and retro football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys , proudly wear them to the Game , displaying how long they have been a fan of their club.

New Zealand Hawks , have won the 2011 Youth AFL Oceania Cup Grand Final, beating Nauru by 21 points in Suva, Fiji on Saturday. The best player was a New Zealander , Shem Tatupu. AFL stars, Nic Natinui and Israel Folau have been cheering the locals on .

Countries involved in the series include Tonga ,Vanuatu , Fiji , PNG , NZ and Nauru. The Aussies , the Flying Boomerangs , played an exhibition match against Oceania  , winning very convincingly .

Oceania and South Pacific will field teams in the 2012 NSW  State Trials and NAB AFL Under-16 Championships.

AFL Football , currently enjoying the break prior to the 2012 Competition, is making inroads into the Oceania / South Pacific region . Will we see Islanders of the calibre of Natinui , joining the AFL competition ?. Although recycled coaches are currently out of fashion , the head and assistant coach of GWS , Kevin Sheedy and Mark Williams respectively , offer much . Both are experienced ex- players , are winning Premiership coaches , have been keen recruiters of new talent , and are shrewd businessmen . Combine these attributes with those of Stephen Silvangi , arguably one of the best defenders to pull on a guernsey , and they represent a formidable brains trust .

Is it a coincidence or a clever marketing ploy that the GWS Giants are wearing the orange black and white colours of their football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys ? These colours are the same as those of the other team from the West of Sydney , the NRL Wests Tigers side , who already have a strong fan base in the region .

The AFL Final Drafty for 2011 is over . All clubs secured several picks with GWS scooping the pool receiving  preferential treatment befitting a new club . Their distinctive white , orange and black football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys are very popular amongst AFL fans .

The Lions have a new ruckman and defender . Adelaide Crows picked up four under 190cm players , the Demons picked 3 players including ex Crow big man James Sellar , and Port Adelaide picked up 2 exciting WA players and a fit Chad Wingard . Richmond , went with three new players , as did Hawthorn . The NMFC, and Carlton selected two drafts , and the GCS selected one . Collingwood went for 2 big ruckmen , and an ex Dragons foward . Essendon Bombers , selected ex- Jet Kavanaugh , to add to their fire power with 2 others . Geelong , coming into the draft late secured five classy players , and Freo picked two midfielders , and two ex SA natives , to shore up their team in 2012.

WCE stuck to their two preferred picks of local WA talent , and the WB went for 4 tough nuts , with their selection . The Swans added three , but the big pickers of the night , GWS scored the standout selections of the draft .

STKFC , wanting to rebuild , and rebound  from a disappointing 2012 , had a big draft of seven players . Max Hudgton and Aaron Hamill join the Saints coaching staff as defence and offence coaches respectively .

Zac Dawson , ex STKFC defender , will play with  Fremantle in 2012. Fremantle don't want ex magpie , Leon Davis , who has returned to Perth .

Brendan Fevola , talented but troubled goalkicker   , will attempt to resurrect his AFL career , but his age of 29 , and past exploits will count against him . Some believe he will get a second chance pre season draft,  or as a mature age rookie in December .

WCE , in a brilliant marketing coup , have presented the leader of the free world  , President Obama with a personalised , West Coast Eagles, football jumper, jersey , guernsey .

Julie Bishop , deputy leader of the Opposition , WCE board of director member , presented the delighted Obama with the footy jumper , prior to his address of federal parliament in Canberra . She likened the Eagles , to NFL side , the Pittsbugh Steelers , in describing their meteoric rise from bottom of the ladder , to finals contenders .

The other 17 clubs in the AFL Competition  , will be disappointed they missed the opportunity to secure Obama's support .

The Irish thrashed the Aussie team , in the two match International Rules series, held in Melbourne and Brisbane recently . Displaying superlative ball skills , and fine agility the Irishmen outplayed , outkicked and outmarked ,the hapless Aussies , who looked like a bunch of amateurs compared to the skillful Irish team

Coaches and footy teams are talking uo their latest recruits whilst GWS , the AFL's new Sydney team , prepare for a draft pick coup on the 24 November .

The Saints are back on St Kilda Beach . Hundreds of loyal fans turned out , in their Saints football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys , with new coach , Scott Watters , captain Nick Rieweoldt and defender Sam Gilbert to film ' saints on the beach ' . A new cocktail , you ask , no , its the Saints latest publicity stunt , to secure membership for 2012,  and promote the team . It is the earliest many bleary eyed fans have got out of bed , and ventured to St Kilda Beach , since their night clubbing days at Bojangles in the 70's , at the same location . On hand, looking resplendent , in their football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys, the beach was awash with the red , white and black.

The Draw has been announced for the 2012 Footy Season . GWS joins the competition , making it an 18 team fixture , with more interstate matches , and a bye period of rest breaks , for all teams.

All Clubs are required to travel interstate at least five times . Collingwood , Hawthorn and Geelong , the top three finishers in 2011 have big games scheduled. The  AFL hopes these games can draw large crowds ,  will provide great entertainment , and  help to consolidate these teams ,  and footy's popularity .

Geelong unfurls its premiership flag in round 4 , and the Saints face Freo in their first game since the coach poaching saga  .The Blues play six games on Friday night , and North Melbourne  make the most interstate trips with Games scheduled in Hobart .

Queensland Clubs , the Lions and Suns , play the most games in the Saturday afternoon twilight timeslot , and the Cats and Magpies meet twice in GF replays in rounds 8 & 16 .

Big Games will continue with the  Magpies playing the Bombers on Anzac Day, Freo versus Carlton in the annual Len Hall Tribute Match , Demons tackling the Magpies on Queen's Birthday Monday, Essendon and Richmond clashing in the 'Dreamtime at the 'G' match in round eight, and St Kilda hosting Carlton on a Monday night match.

Interstate teams will continue to play each other in the two 'Derbies' between Fremantle and West Coast, two 'Showdowns' between Adelaide and Port Adelaide, two Brisbane Lions- Gold Coast 'Q-Clashes' and, for the first time, two all-Sydney clashes between the Giants and Swans.

The Aussies playing host to the Irish , have compiled an AFL team of a variety of players . It includes two indigenous players , eg: Jake King , a rising star,  Callan Ward new to GWS, a young leader , Brad Green , Melbourne Demons Captain , and old campaigner , Stephen Milne .

There has been much debate as to the merits of this series . What remains irrefutable is , the Irish love it , players feel honoured to represent Australia , and fans enjoy the spectacle .

The 2011 Rugby World Cup Final , will be played  between New Zealand and France , on Sunday 23 rd October at 7.00pm , in NZ .

The Australian Team , the Wallabies , were soundly defeated by N Z team , the All Blacks in their semi final match .The Aussies played their last game of the Cup , to beat Wales , in the Third Place Play-Off.

NZ is a country where they love the sport of rugby union . The devotion of their fans to their national team , the All Blacks , makes the average AFL fan look half-hearted .

In the Grand Final , New Zealand takes on old foe , France . Having just returned from  France , I witnessed first hand how patriotically they supported their national team , whilst watching the 'Ugby World Cup.

Being an Aussie , and AFL zealot , I will support the Kiwis , in their quest for the greatest prize of their competition . Sports Fans everywhere , will be watching , wearing their codes jumpers , jerseys , guernseys . Many , will be hoping the All Blacks are victorious , a feat , which appears, to be less elusive , than the St Kilda Saints winning an AFL Premiership.
