All the major football jumper , jersey , guernsey manufactures make babies Footy Jumpers . These
football jumper , jersey , guernseys are usually a replica of the senior sizes. The commemorative or more decorative styles do not seem to be made for babies .
The basic standard style of home and away colours are made in tiny sizes for babies from six months upwards.Do these mini fans continue to follow the team’s guernsey, jersey , jumper they wear as an infant or do they discard them as soon as they are old enough? Has the indoctrination that has begun at birth been successful so they continue to follow the parents choice of team into youth and then adulthood? Time will tell but these jumpers for small fans are becoming increasingly popular with parents everywhere .

Footy on Friday in Melbourne with the NAB Cup Final at Etihad Stadium between the Dogs and Power . It promises to be a thriller . Power have unveiled a new strip for their guernsey , jersey , jumper of season 2010 . Its distinctive colours shouldn’t clash with the traditional Doggies tri colours of red blue and white.
The other finals clash between the Saints and Dockers will see the Saints wearing their NAB cup night colours as worn previously. Will the Dockers play in the white style guernsey jumper jersey often worn by them for the away night games? Those under 18 get in free as part of the AFL’s push to attract young fans. Many young fans will attend in their team colours jumper , jersey , guernsey .
A change of venue has occurred for the scheduled Lions / Cats match. Its been moved to Visy Park in Melbourne after torrential rain and ongoing bad weather has rendered the original venue on the Gold Coast unusable . Queensland , rain one day even more rain the next. Victoria’s new slogan , sunny one day even sunnier the next .
Ironic that at a time when the AFL is promoting respectful relationships Fevola is again in the headlines for appearing to disrespect women. Will he be stripped of his Lions jumper , jersey , guernsey? That other wayward son Barry Hall has fitted well into his Doggies jumper , jersey , guernsey and is playing good footy .

Saints white or not
The NAB Cup continues with successful teams playing off.
Saturday sees Melbourne based team , the much loved but spectacularly unsuccessful St Kilda Saints play the Sydney based, exciting Sydney Swans. Both teams have red and white in their team colours . The Saints have black too but it still raises the question will one team play in the white strip favoured of previous years when a clash in clubs colours is evident ?

If they do it will avoid confusion between players , fans and TV viewers alike . This white jumper , jersey , guernsey is destined to become a highly collectable item . Those from previous years clashes are widely sought by all .
Is a new white strip to be worn ? Fans will just have to wait and see.

An end to summer is in sight with the nights and early mornings drawing in with less daylight and a drop in temperatures. With the changing season a football fans thoughts turn to their teams first game of the year .Last years jumper , jersey , guernsey is pulled out of the wardrobe and inspected . The questions has it got another season in it? , are the sponsors too dated ?but mainly will it still fit ?are asked .The sponsors may come and go, as will some of the mascots ( who would have thought the Lions would run out with a new Lion ).The team colours may appear a bit darker or lighter each passing year but one thing remains the same and will never go out of fashion ,at round one every ardent footy fan will be out in their teams colours wearing their jumper , jersey or guernsey.Sometimes these jumpers have often had a short respite over the warmer months but the humble jumper has definitely become more of a fashion trend and wearable iconic item of clothing over time .Of one thing you are assured , the jumper ,whether temporarily rested , newly purchased or freshly washed will be proudly on display at the first bounce of the Sherrin .

Football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys are rapidly becoming highly collectable . As fashions and styles change so does the humble footy jumper . Long gone are the woollen , knitted , long sleeve variety with button up front and club names sewn on front and numbers sewn on back . These jumpers branded a club and a team and whilst not high fashion made a club instantly recognisable and bonded the players to each other, their club and their code . Many a mum despaired as when faced with the mammoth task of washing team jumpers they battled the soiling , the wet winter weather , thickness of the wool and the near impossiblity of getting the jumper dry for match day . Today the modern slick polyester version is usually sleeveless has printed on everything ie numbers , logos , sponsors , names etc, is able to be washed and dried overnight and takes plenty of wear and tear . However the older style jumpers are enjoying a renaissance in their twilight years as collectors world wide hanker for the old school team jumper they played in, or their teams old strip . These jumpers often plastered in unfashionable sponsors logos for tobacco companies and breweries are highly prized . The items are much sort after and collectors and fans alike will pay a high price to secure a much coveted item such as an old Fitzroy Lions jumper . Will the new cartoon like logo of the Lions be as popular or collectable as the the Old Lions strip ? Only time will tell but every woolly jumper forever enshrined under glass has a story to tell which can only grow in stature as time goes by . Will they become the true legends of the game and gaze on in horror at the modern incarnations of this famed piece of sporting apparel ?

older style
All are used to play Australian Rules Football in.
The early design was wool with a button up front , peak collar and often sleeveless .
They were called jumpers because thats what they were a jumper in team colours to play sport in , in this case afl football.
Embellishments such as numbers , team logo , league playing in eg; VFL were sewn onto jumper .
Later the jumpers became a wool acrylic mix often now with long sleeves and all of the above embellishments .
Sponsors logo’s came along to boost clubs often ailing funds and wool had by now been totally replaced by acrylic.
Today it is hightech dri fit polyester that breathes . Manufactured fabric has replaced any natural fibres and the peak collar is gone along with any buttons . The long sleeve style is still available but with a few notable exceptions like Saints Stephen Milne and previous decade carlton player Steve Silvagni players wear the sleeveless style. These have ribbed armholes and v neckbands .
They are brightly coloured with futuristic mascots , have sewn on makers logo tag to authenticate item and are plastered with sponsors logo’s front and back . A big difference is these are all printed on and not sewn on as in yesteryear .Even the back number is imprinted with an afl logo across bottom of the numbers. A modern work of art to differentiate it from the opposition and to attract as much sponsorship as is allowable these items are signed by players and auctioned by the clubs for vast sums of money . Bearing litte resemblance to the older style jumper the old timers are still popular with historians ,collectors , traditionalists ,die hard fans and people who just want to have their own slice of the good old days .
The high tech polyester treatment has also extended to football shorts and socks again printed with team ,afl and sponsors logos . Todays football kit bears little resemblance to the old monoliths of the past .

modern guernsey
Mums everywhere are grateful that no longer do they a mass of muddy wet wool to wash on a saturday afternooon after the saturday morning game .
