Weekend Games

The pressure to succeed and the unpredictability of the modern AFL game was never more evident than in last weekends round of matches .

The Cats thrashed the Lions at the Gabba', Western Bulldogs beat in form team Sydney and the Saints suffered their third loss in a row to a speedy , youthful Bombers side .

The Richmond Tigers looked poised to breakthrough with their first win of the 2010 season only to have it snatched away by their Hawthorn opponents in the dying moments of the game.

A  youthful Melbourne Demons team were no match for a rejuvenated West Coast Eagles who beat them soundly at the MCG.

Interstate results saw Carlton hold off Port Power at AAMI stadium and the Collingwood Magpies beat vastly improved Fremantle Dockers at Subiaco.

Many fans, tipsters and media commentators would have expected different results to those posted in this round of matches .

Fans were out everywhere in their jumpers , jerseys , guernseys to cheer their team on and to will them to succeed.

Suprising Results

AFL matches played out over the weekend yielded some surprising results.

Teams fancied for this years premiership flag , Brisbane , St Kilda and Geelong were all beaten.

The Anzac Day match between Collingwood and Essendon provided poor entertainment . Essendon were soundly thrashed by a resurgent Magpies side.

Melbourne with its young , fit team excited fans when they beat the Lions at the MCG . The match was watched by favourite son Jim Stynes.

Their charismatic former leader was thrilled along with hundreds of jubilant fans to see the David and Goliath struggle between flag fanciers and underdog result in a Dees victory.

Nothing is a certainty in Football.

One thing is constant . Fans will wear their jumper , jersey , guernsey to the match.

Split Round

Its almost Easter .The AFL has a split round for the holiday break which starts on Thursday night at the Gabba when the Lions play Carlton.

This round of matches has been spread over the four day break in a bid to get as many spectators as possible to all games .

Traditionally , it has provided some great competitions all played out in beautiful pre-winter weather around the country.

No games are played on Good Friday.It is still considered to be a part of the sacred Easter ritual and the afl will not schedule any games for this day .Attempts have been launched for this to happen but it has met with no success.
Easter is a clever marketing campaign by the afl who attract record crowds to the fixture.

Fans everywhere are in a relaxed holiday mode stuffed full of buns , chocolate and fish . All will turn out to barrack for their team in their clubs
colours jersey , jumper , guernsey .

Even those not at the Game will have radios and TV's tuned to the game from the door of the tent or the kitchen shelf of the holiday cabin.

Its a chance for families to get together in their jersey , jumper , guernsey and go to the footy or listen to the game .

Get out there and enjoy it and don't forget to wear the jersey , jumper , guernsey .
