The Lions in a similiar action replaced their Lion mascot several seasons ago . By using Lions and Tigers as mascots, Brisbane and Richmond hope to be successful hunters and predators on the football field , just as their mascots are in the jungle.
A football jumper, can be dated by the style of its mascot , and those fans with vintage and retro football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys , proudly wear them to the Game , displaying how long they have been a fan of their club.

The AFL labelled last weekend's footy matches , the Indigenous Round , to honour past and present , indigenous footy players.

Traditional Tigers Jumper
The Richmond Tigers, wore jumpers with a local indigenous artists painting , replacing the yellow of their traditional sash strip . It was a bold move that paid off as this new style jumper , jersey , guernsey , proved a match winner for them in their game against the Bombers .
Geelong, managed a two point win over a fast finishing Carlton Blues side , in a fitting tribute to Club Legend , Bob Davis , who passed away , earlier in the week .

Two Riewoldts are playing tonight . Jack Riewoldt , the Richmond Tigers exciting young goal kicker , is playing against his cousin Nick 's , St Kilda Saints team .

Jack 's Jumper
Each , will be playing at different ends of the football ground . Both , are hoping to play in a winning team , and to kick goals .
The Saints Riewoldt , captain of the St Kilda team , has had a difficult summer , being exposed for allegedly indulging in inappropriate behaviour . St Kilda's one point loss to the Geelong Cats , last week , was not the season starter the Saints were hoping for .
Conversely , the Tiger's , Jack Riewoldt has had a good summer , lost some weight and gained some muscle , and looks set to continue his goal kicking form of the first round , when he kicked 6 goals .
Both teams were robbed of victory in Round One , and will be hoping to avenge the loss of last week , and post their first victory , of the 2011 AFL Home and Away Season .
Which team will be successful on the night ? And which Riewoldt will kick the most goals ?

Round One of the AFL Home and Away Season, was played out over the weekend. Many games were close contests , with the victors winning by one or two points . Collingwood and Essendon were the notable exceptions . Both teams thrashed their opposition . The Swans and Demons , staged a thrilling draw at the MCG , and the Saints , were unlucky to be beaten by one point by the Cats , in the closing minutes of play . New Queensland team, the Gold Coast Suns had a bye .
The AFL , marked the opening of the 2011 Season, by providing rock band entertainment , asking team players to assemble to sing the National Anthem, and inviting recently retired players to toss the coin for the first bounce of the ball.
There were many highlights , such as Jack Riewoldt kicking six goals for the Richmond Tigers . The dominance of Collingwood is still apparent , and the resurgence of the Bombers has ignited their fans passions .
Many watched , many went to the Game , and many wore their football jumper , jersey , guernsey .

Retro Richmond TAC Sponsors Jumper
Licensed Football jumpers are unique . They carry the teams sponsors , for the current season , or those of a past season . A jumper can be dated, from the sponsor, who appears on the jumper . An example , is the Richmond Tigers , football jumper . In the past, the TAC sponsored them , and they had "drink drive , bloody idiot " , printed on , their team football jumper , jersey , guernsey .
New sponsors sign up each season , and pay for the right to have the advertsing of their brand , on the jumper . Costly for the company , but they receive world wide media coverage , and priceless exposure of their brand .
Chain store football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys do not carry these logos . They sell a generic afl jumper that has the team colours , and team logo /mascot , but not the sponsors .
If you want a jumper just like the players wear , you need to buy a licensed product . You may not be aware of the difference but the fans are . If you are giving one as a gift , or purchasing it for the special person in your life , young or old , buy the genuine article . It is worth spending , the few dollars more . The recipient will be eternally grateful.

The AFL publicity machine , has gone into overdrive , publishing articles on all of the above topics , in newspapers , TV and radio broadcasts .

Ben Cousins angst
Even the Melbourne Herald Sun , trotted out the tired old line on Ben Cousins , "I still think about drugs everyday " , over the weekend .

VFL players being offered contracts with AFL Teams
It is almost Summer , traditionally , the off season for football .
Rugby and cricket are in the news , with Australian teams playing in the UK , and at home in Australia .
The AFL , even in the off season , have managed to generate interest in footy .
A former Hawk , now a new recruit to the Gold Coast Suns , has been employed , to write a column on his transition from a Hawk to a Sun , and the difference in training regimes .
A list of the new young guns , the draft picks for 2011 , and the probable team , they will be picked to play for , has been published in the daily press .
Another article features VFL players who are to be offered AFL places . Finally an article on , Jack Riewoldt , of the Richmond Tigers , and the Leagues 2010 leading goalkicker . His finger surgery , has been detailed , and it explains , it is to repair , a broken finger .
Footy fans , are keen to hear news of their teams , and readers are being treated to a feast of media exposure , compliments of a clever marketing team at the AFL .

New recruits for the Demons
It would appear that , news of their teams , and football jumpers , jerseys , guernseys , are never far from the footy fans thoughts .

Jack Riewoldt ,Tasmanian recruit ,and young Richmond Tigers player , kicked 10 goals on Saturday .
He is a cousin ,to that other famous Riewoldt , Nick, who plays for St Kilda .
Jack , with two younger brothers , waiting to join him in AFL ranks, might inspire a Riewoldt flavoured domination , of the competition.
A prolific goal kicker , he has been a stalwart for his team , despite its recent poor performances , and general criticism .
Its a great achievement, and beleagured Tigers fans , were at the match , in their football jumpers, jerseys, guernseys , to witness it .
A promising future awaits the young tigers, who have persisted doggedly ,through mediocre performances , and games.
Expect lots of fans, in the Tiger supporter ranks , to start wearing number 8, on their jumper , jersey , guernsey.
Interestingly , at the end of the match , after jubiliant team mates had congratulated Riewoldt, and he made his way to the players race, a woman stepped up to hug him .
Family member , girlfriend , Mum , sister , aunt ? No his business manager !
Must be a sign of the times . AFL record breaking attempts, by professional footballers , are managed now .
